Calling all Space Rangers! Big changes are coming to the beloved attraction Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World. Starting next year, visitors can enjoy a new show scene, revamped vehicles, and enhanced gameplay elements. Here’s what you can expect from this iconic Tomorrowland attraction.
A Brand New Scene
At the beginning of their adventure, guests are greeted by a new character: Buddy! This friendly robot, designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, plays an important role within Star Command. As a support robot, Buddy ensures that departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission. He offers encouragement, performs final checks on the Star Cruisers, and gives players the chance to practice their shooting skills with interactive targets. This is the perfect moment to improve your blaster aim before facing off against the evil Emperor Zurg!
Revamped Star Cruisers
The well-known Star Cruisers are receiving a fresh new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Additionally, the vehicles will be equipped with video monitors that display real-time score updates and other exciting features. This not only makes the ride visually more appealing but also more competitive and dynamic.

Handheld Blasters for a Better Experience
One of the biggest improvements is the introduction of handheld blasters. These new blasters make aiming easier and help guests achieve higher scores. Especially younger riders will be able to participate more actively in the mission. Moreover, the blasters now include an always-active laser, allowing players to see exactly where they are aiming. Each Star Cruiser will receive blasters in two different colors and be equipped with new light effects, sounds, and vibrations, making the experience even more immersive.
Interactive Targets
The well-known static “Z” targets are undergoing a technological upgrade. These updated targets will react and light up when hit, creating an even more immersive experience. Additionally, these improvements offer new possibilities that Disney Imagineers are currently exploring further. A recent important test took place where Disney employees got to try out the new targets, blasters, and gameplay features. According to project creative director Justin DeTolla, it was a valuable experience: “Everyone had a great time and our team learned a lot. We’ve been working on this for quite some time, so it was fantastic to see everything in practice for the first time.”

Temporary Closure
To make these exciting updates possible, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will temporarily close in August. The revamped version of the attraction will open in 2025 and promises an extraordinary experience for all aspiring Space Rangers.
So get ready for an epic battle against Zurg with an enhanced mission, new technology, and even more fun at Walt Disney World.
