Bob Chapek vervangt daarmee Bob Iger die tot aan het einde van zijn contract eind 2021 Chairman van The Walt Disney Company zal blijven. Bob Iger ging normaal al eerder op pensioen gegaan zijn, was het niet dat hij nog bleef om de overname van Fox in goeie banen te leiden en Disney+ op te richten. De overname van Fox is intussen compleet, zijn laatste project Disney+ is nu al een succes te noemen en daarmee is het tijd dat Bob Iger afscheid neemt van zijn CEO stoel.
Bob Iger die zijn carrière begon als weerman op de Amerikaanse televisie sloot zich in 1974 aan bij ABC (één van grootste Amerikanse TV zenders, nu in handen van Disney) waar hij zich kon opwerken tot hoofd van ABC Entertainment en later werd benoemd tot voorzitter van het moederbedrijf Capital Cities/ABC. 2 jaar na zijn benoeming werd Capital Cities/ABC overgenomen door The Walt Disney Company. Iger bleef tot 1999 voorzitter van ABC. Nadien werd hij verantwoordelijk voor de afdeling Walt Disney International.
In 2000 promoveerde Iger tot voorzitter en COO van The Walt Disney Company en werd hij de nummer twee, na voorzitter en CEO Michael Eisner. Vijf jaar later volgde hij Eisner op als CEO en werd Iger de hoogste leidinggevende.
Onder Iger’s leiding nam Disney in 2006 het animatiebedrijf PIXAR, dat reeds exclusief voor Disney werkte over, datzelfde jaar kocht Disney ook de rechten op Oswald the Lucky Rabbit terug van NBC, een origineel figuurtje van Walt.
In 2012 sloot Bob Iger en George Lucas een akkoord over de overname van Lucasfilm waardoor oa. Star Wars & Indiana Jones in de handen van Disney kwam. In 2016 opende Disney een volledig attractiepark in Shanghai.
Er zijn lang geruchten geweest dat hij een greep zou doen naar het Presidentschap van de Verenigde Staten maar dat blijkbaar niet door te gaan. Zijn gezin zag zo’n politiek carrière niet zitten.

Under Iger’s management, Disney took over the animation company PIXAR in 2006, which had already worked exclusively for Disney. In the same year, Disney also bought back the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit from NBC, an original character from Walt.
