The Walt Disney Company yesterday reported quarterly earnings for its first fiscal quarter ended December 30, 2017, showing an increase in both revenue and attendance for its theme park operations.
Again Disneyland Paris played an important role in the rising figures for Disney Parks. The international activities of the Disney Parks division have increased by 21%. Pandora-The World of Avatar created a record number of visitors to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! ensured a higher attendance at Disneyland California.
Good news for Disneyland Paris except for the Villages Nature story which caused a big loss. The project is 50% owned by Disney and 50% owned by Center Parcs. Both profit and loss must therefore be borne by both parties. Had they used such a big investment for a new Disney Hotel and attraction this would probably have been better. Villages Nature is of course only just open and not yet well known to the general public.
In this quarterly report, it was announced that Disneyland Paris will “soon” receive major brands from the Walt Disney Company such as Star Wars, Pixar & Marvel. If they mean new attractions or the upcoming Marvel project for Disney’s Hotel New York & the Marvel Summer of Super Heroes is not clear. But a similar Star Wars Land as under construction in the US Parks would be the real game-changer for Disneyland Paris.
It is striking that since the complete takeover of the Disneyland Paris, by parent company The Walt Disney Company, only good news can be read, for that year there was some loss talked about.

De Walt Disney Company rapporteerde gisteren de kwartaalresultaten voor het eerste fiscale kwartaal dat eindigde op 30 december 2017 en liet een stijging zien van zowel de omzet als bezoekersaantallen voor de voor hun themaparken.
Opnieuw heeft Disneyland Paris een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de stijgende cijfers voor Disney Parks. De internationale activiteiten van de Disney Parks divisie zijn gestegen met 21%. Pandora-The World of Avatar zorgde voor een record aantal bezoekers in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! zorgde dan weer voor een hogere opkomst in Disneyland California.
Goed nieuw dus voor Disneyland Paris behalve voor het Villages Nature verhaal wat voor een groot verlies heeft gezorgd. Het project is voor 50% in handen van Disney en 50% in handen van Center Parcs. Zowel winst al verlies moet dus door beide partijen gedragen worden. Hadden ze zo’n grote investering gebruikt voor een nieuwe Disney Hotel en attractie had dit waarschijnlijk beter geweest. Villages Nature is uiteraard nog maar pas open en nog niet goed gekend bij het grote publiek.
Bij dit kwartaal rapport werd aangekondigd dat Disneyland Paris “binnenkort” grootste merken van the Walt Disney Company zal krijgen in zoals Star Wars, Pixar & Marvel. Als ze daarmee nieuwe attracties bedoelen of het aankomende Marvel project voor Disney’s Hotel New York & de Marvel Summer of Super Heroes is niet duidelijk. Maar een soortgelijk Star Wars land zoals onder constructie in de US Parken zou het echte game-changer zijn voor Disneyland Paris.
Het valt op dat sinds de volledige overname van de Disneyland Paris, door moederbedrijf The Walt Disney Company, alleen nog goed nieuws valt te lezen, daarvoor werd er jaar na jaar enkele over verlies gesproken.
